CDR Processing

CDR Processing for UK Telecoms Resellers

Import and rate call records from 85+ UK carrier formats, with pre-billing checks before any invoice is produced.

What CDR processing covers in SAFE

CDR processing is the work between receiving a carrier's call records and producing invoices from them: importing the files, converting each carrier's format, allocating calls to customers, rating them against your tariffs and checking the results before billing.

SAFE reads 85+ CDR formats from UK carriers and wholesalers, including Gamma, BT Wholesale and the major VoIP providers. Calls are rated against your own tariffs, discount plans and allowances, and the wholesale cost from the carrier file is kept alongside the retail charge.

Before invoices are produced, the pre-billing report shows what has arrived from each carrier, which calls could not be allocated or rated, and which figures have moved away from recent months. That gives your team a defined review step, and supports the accurate billing that Ofcom expects of providers.

From Carrier File to Rated Call

The platform handles the repeatable steps and brings the exceptions to your team before the billing run:

  • ✓Imports files by upload, email collection, FTPS or API, depending on package
  • ✓Converts 85+ UK carrier formats into a common record
  • ✓Rates each call against the tariff, discount plan and allowance that apply
  • ✓Lists unallocated and unrated calls for correction
  • ✓Produces pre-billing and post-billing reports for each run

How CDR Processing Works

  1. 01

    Import

CDR files arrive by manual upload, email collection, FTPS or API, depending on the carrier and your package. Large bundles that are too big to email can be uploaded through the portal.

  2. 02

    Standardisation

Each carrier format is converted into a common record, so calls from different carriers are rated and reported in the same way.

  3. 03

    Allocation and Rating

Each call is allocated to a customer by number and rated against the tariff that applies, including any discount plans and allowances.

  4. 04

    Pre-Billing Checks

Before invoices are produced, the pre-billing report lists unallocated and unrated calls and highlights figures that differ from recent months. Staff confirm it has been checked before bill production.

Checks Before Billing

The pre-billing report runs when a billing run is marked Ready or Approved and is emailed to billing users. Each section appears only when it has something to show:

Carrier Call Report

Calls received from each carrier by file type and month, so a missing or short delivery is visible before billing.

Unallocated and Unrated Calls

Calls that could not be matched to a customer's number, or that have no effective tariff, listed by customer and by number.

Anomaly Highlighting

Figures more than 15% away from the rolling average of recent months are highlighted for review.

Wholesale Cost Discrepancies

Where wholesale modules are active, differences between carrier-reported and calculated wholesale costs.

Common Questions

Which UK carriers does SAFE support?
SAFE reads 85+ CDR formats from UK carriers and wholesalers, including Gamma, BT Wholesale and the major VoIP providers. New formats can be added when a customer needs one.
How often are CDRs processed?
It depends on the package: monthly on Startup, weekly on Standard, daily on Premium and real-time on Enterprise. Carriers deliver CDRs in batches rather than call by call, so timing also depends on how often each carrier sends its files.
How are CDR files delivered to the platform?
Startup uses manual upload. Standard adds email collection, Premium adds FTPS, and Enterprise adds API delivery. Manual upload through the portal remains available on every package, including for bundles too large to email.
What does the pre-billing report check?
It shows the calls received from each carrier by month, lists calls that could not be allocated to a customer or rated against a tariff, and highlights figures that differ from the rolling average of recent months by more than 15%. Where wholesale modules are active, it also shows wholesale cost discrepancies.
Can we see the wholesale cost behind each call?
Yes. The wholesale cost reported in the carrier file is held alongside the retail charge, so margin can be reviewed by call, customer or carrier. Wholesale cost tracking is included from the Premium package.
